Microgravity Facilities for Columbus
The internal facilities of the Columbus Laboratory consist of the Microgravity Facilities for Columbus (MFC).
The Microgravity Facilities for Columbus cover the development of five multi-user laboratories in the fields of Biology, Human Physiology, Materials and Fluid Science.
Four of these laboratories will be located in ESA's Columbus:
- Biolab
- European Physiology Module (EPM)
- Fluid Science Laboratory
while one, in cooperation with NASA, is foreseen to be located in the US Laboratory called Destiny:
- Materiel Science Laboratory
It is the goal of the MFC programme to maintain the four disciplines constantly present and generating scientific data throughout the lifetime of the station. This will provide European and international scientists with a wide envelope of research opportunities offered from the unique vantage point of a world class facility in space.
